About Tammy

I can remember my very first yoga class like it was yesterday. We started in Sukhasana ( seated – legs crossed). The instructor asked us to close our eyes and breathe in and out through our nose. Then she asked us to draw our shoulders back and open up our hearts. In that moment I was completely hooked. Initially, I was drawn to yoga for its physical benefits, but what kept me interested was the experience of practicing yoga. Through yoga I have connected with what lies within each of us, which is pure love, pure joy and pure light. I have developed an inner strength, as well as physical strength. After practicing consistently for 5 years, I decided to become a teacher, to share this with other people.

I received my certification from True Yoga, in Westlake California and registered with Yoga Alliance in January of 2006. In November 2007, I completed an advance teacher training in Therapeutic Yoga that was held at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. Therapeutic Yoga is a comprehensive system of supported postures, breath awareness, gentle yoga, and guided meditation. It is designed to enhance the body's own capacity to heal, physically and emotionally. It seems we are all healing on some level, whether psychologically, emotionally, or physically. This truly holistic practice dissolves those distinctions as it guides us to a sense of wholeness. The word "healing" means the process of reuniting, restoring, and returning to oneness. This is the essence of Yoga! My entire practice changed after this training, as well as how I teach and approach my students.

I continue to spend much of my time in Svadhaya ( self study), and seek out further training, workshops, and retreats with other inspiring yoga teachers. I have also done extensive research, and present workshops on Yoga for Menopause. The years leading up to menopause are a transitional time for women. Yoga can be extremely beneficial during this time.

Much of my inspiration comes from my students. I feel honored and blessed to teach yoga. I am continually amazed and inspired by the beauty of the human spirit. To this day I continue to open my heart, and encourage my students to do the same.
